Canadel vs Imports

Where is it made?

Canadel is made in Canada.

Most other dining table are made oversea.

Table Construction

Canadel's tables are made of North American Birch. Canadel’s tables are customizable. You can pick the stain, type of edge, type of leg, size and shape of their tables. Canadel’s finishes are far superior than any table top finish I have ever seen from an import.

Most imports are made of veneer. Which is a thin piece of real wood on top of mdf. Veneer can crack if moisture is left on the table top. If water gets under the veneer it is not repairable.

Chair Construction

Canadel chairs are customizable. You can pick the stain, fabric and the style of chair. Canadel’s chairs are fully assembled. The upholstery and craftsmanship is better than any import.

Most imports are non customizable. The quality can range from poor to good. Every import chair needs to be assembled. Each style usually only has one chair that goes with the collection.

Servers and Kitchen Islands

Canadel’s servers and kitchen islands are made of 100% solid wood. Canadel’s servers and kitchen islands are customizable, you can pick the style, the size and stain colour. Canadel quality and finishes are far superior to any import.

Most imports either does not have a server or only has one server that goes with a collection. I have not seen an import that has a kitchen island that goes with a collection. If they have a server it is not customizable.

Attention to Detail

Canadel table and chair are beautiful. I can immediately tell a Canadel table from an import. The finish sets it apart from the imports.

Import table and chairs range in quality from poor to good quality.

Longevity

Canadel furniture is built to last for many years. If it gets damaged it can be repaired because it is solid wood. A Canadel table really should last forever.

Imports are meant to last for 10 years. Some damages can be repaired other damages cannot be repaired.

Customization

Canadel furniture can be completely customizable. They have an incredible assortment of stains and fabrics to choose from. Canadel has two collections that are very well priced. The one collection is called Eastside which has a distressed look. The other collection is called Gourmet which is more traditional. These collections do not have as many choices but are half the price of their core collection. I often suggest looking at these collection first.

Import usually are not customizable.

Price

Canadel table and chairs are more expensive than imports. If you buy chairs from the Gourmet or Eastside collection it cost between $220 and $285. If you buy your table from the Gourmet or Eastside collection it cost between $750 and $1,000. I do find when you buy from the other collections it is more expensive.

Imports tables can range in price from $300 to $700 depending on the quality. Chairs can range in price from $100 to $180 depending on the quality.

Lead Time

Before COVID, Canadel’s lead time was approximately 6-8 weeks. Now the lead times are 16-18 weeks.

Before COVID, imports lead times were incredible you could get it the same day. Now the lead times are 10-12 weeks.

Warranty

Canadel warranties their table and chairs for 1 year. We do not see a lot of warranty claims for Canadel.

Imports come with a 1 year warranty as well. We do see more warranty claims with imports.

Final thoughts

Canadel makes a better product than any import. However, the price is more. I believe the Gourmet and Eastside collections offer great value. If you want to save money I suggest finding a good quality import chair and match the stain to a custom Canadel table.

Imports are great value, especially when it comes to chairs. You can find a good quality import chair for $130, the same chair from Gourmet or Eastside would cost you $230. Please keep in mind you will have to assemble the import and you cannot customize it. When it comes to tables, you can find a import veneer table for $300. A table that is the same size from the Gourmet or Eastside would cost you $750. But keep in mind the Canadel table is solid wood, that stain is beautiful, and it is customizable.
